You peel it, it takes a million years,

and then at the end you have to eat a hard-boiled egg.

So, there's really no reward for doing it.

Okay.

Peel a hard-boiled egg.

[groaning]

Sometimes I get this right, a lot of times I get it wrong.

It looks too hard to do.

I feel like there's a tool up here I should be using.

The peeler.

Scratch the surface.

Or...

This might have to do with the peeling process.

I feel like shaking it around in this

is not what you're supposed to do.

I'm just gonna go right into it and use my hands.

[groaning]

I'm having some trouble.

This is not going well.

I think I'm kind of screwing it up.

I'm taking off quite a bit of egg.

Oh, no.

It's not looking very pretty.

But there's beauty in imperfection.

I don't know if there's a faster way to do it.

I am just gonna...

Oh.

And then...

Oh, it broke.

There's...

[laughing]

There must be a more efficient way to do this.

Okay, here we go.

First step is to gently crack the egg.

I just roll it a little bit.

I'm not sure what the magic is in the roll,

but it absolutely helps.

And then I just peel it.

At the bottom is that air pocket,

and you wanna get it from there first.

Gettin' around the edges.

Okay, we're almost there.

That's my favorite, when a big piece comes off.

Yeah, like that?

Money shot.

There we go.

Wow, look at that.

I did it.

The perfect hard-boiled egg.

This is my hard-boiled egg peeled.

I hated it, and I still hate it.

[tape rewinding]

There's a lot of ways to peel a hard-boiled egg.

There's a lot of tricks, a lot of gadgets.

I'm gonna show you the way that works for me.

The key, for me, to peeling a hard-boiled egg is water.

Eggs naturally have a little air spot in them,

so when you tap the egg on a counter you'll see.

On this side, I tapped it.

It broke, but it stayed pretty egg shaped, but on this side.

The air bubble's on this side,

and that's where I wanna start

because I want to try and get some water under the membrane.

And what I normally do is I tap it all the way around.

I don't just tap that one end.

我淹没在水里,然后我开始剥,right?

So, here's that membrane, right?

I wanna pull that membrane away

and try and start to get a little bit of water under it.

So, I just keep on dipping it in the water

and pulling it back.

You can see as I peel it, the shell comes away really easy.

If you have little shards or fragments,

this also washes them off.

That's how you peel a hard-boiled egg.

Hey.

[classical music]

It's very dry.
