You read that right: Someone in Germany just pulled off the sweetest heistever现在,据推测,沐浴在40000磅of chocolate, reportedly valued around 70,000 euros, or $82,000. Local police said in a statement that "anyone offered large quantities [of chocolate] via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately," according toDW. Another local outlet,Hessenschau, noted that the police spokesperson also advised anyone lucky enough to stumble upon 20 tons of chocolate to "not throw any of that away," according toNPR— although they should probably be more worried about the stolen goodies being eaten up.

DWreports that police are investigating whether this robbery was "linked to another theft in nearby Weimar, also over the weekend — this time of a truck with an empty trailer," and notes that another sweet sting operation occurred in Germany last weekend. "Police in the northern town of Wittenburg were searching for a semi-trailer filled with 30 tons of fruit juice, and worth about 70,000 euros, that was stolen sometime Saturday morning," according toDW. AndNPRadds that German thieves aren't the only ones with a sweet tooth: Earlier this year, two men allegedly associated with a Russian crime syndicate were charged with masterminding "the transport and sale of a whopping 10,000 pounds of 'stolen chocolate confections' to a government informant." Are they colluding with Willy Wonka?
