Tosca's cocktails are so good people drink them well into the meal.

Ingredients

Makes 1 drink

2 tablespoons honey
2 basil sprig, plus 1 for garnish
1 ounce bourbon
1 ounce Campari
3/4 ounce grapefruit juice
3/4 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce honey syrup
2 grinds of black pepper

  1. Step 1

    Shake 2 tablespoons honey and 1 tablespoons warm water in a small jar until honey is dissolved.

    Step 2

    Combine 1 basil sprig, 1 ounce bourbon, 1 ounce Campari, 3/4 ounce grapefruit juice, 3/4 ounce lemon juice, 1/2 ounce honey syrup, and 2 grinds of black pepper in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is frosty.

    Step 3

    Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with a fresh basil sprig.

  • Sublime -- a cocktail that is much greater than the sum of its parts. We make the following slight modification: increase bourbon to 1.5 to 2.0 ozs. per drink and decrease lemon juice to 0.5 oz. per drink. The bourbon and Campari complement each other in surprising and delightful ways.
