Kwame Onwuachi

Chef/Owner ofKith/Kinin Washington, DC,Kwame Onwuachiwas raised primarily in the Bronx, New York. His culinary heritage spans the African diaspora, from Nigeria to Jamaica and New Orleans. In 2015, Onwuachi competed as a contestant on Top Chef, and in 2019, he published his memoir,Notes From a Young Black Chef, recounting tales of his childhood—including the two years he spent living with his grandfather in Nigeria from the age of 10—his experiences as a Black man starting out in the restaurant industry, and the opening and subsequent closing of his first restaurant.
