For most of my life, I was not particularly fussy about cocktail glasses—or glassware at all, for that matter. I drank coffee out ofmismatched mugsand wine out of water glasses, and I definitely didn’t have any separate sets for different cocktails. But, like my former affinity for non-stretch denim, spending so much time at home has changed this.

Perhaps my increased desire for proper cocktail glasses is the result of staring at my open shelving all day long, wishing there was a line of attractive stemware there. Or maybe it’s thatan end-of-day drinkhas never held such emotional weight—it’s become what I so often rely on to transition me from work into evening. Regardless, I’m currently eyeing nice glassware. The most recent objects of my affection? Beautifully-shaped coupe glasses.

Coupes manage to be classy-but-cool and elegant-but-sturdy at the same time. They’re not too fancy or precious, but they still make it look like you know how to whip up an impressive cocktail or two. Since they're stemmed, with a relatively small five- to seven-ounce capacity, they're the ideal vessel for drinks served “up,” which means served chilled without ice (the cocktail gets shaken or stirred with ice beforehand, then strained). Like a martini! Drinking amartinifrom a coupe glass isway不低于传统的v型模式l; you're much less likely to spill on yourself. Coupes have mostly replaced traditional martini glasses in cocktail bars for this reason, and as result, drinking a martini out of a coupe feels a bit more modern. Another favorite use for the coupe? Champagne, or your favorite bubbly wine.

Selecting a set of coupe glasses depends entirely on your personal design preferences. Pared-back styles, like Crate & Barrel's Camille glass, feel timeless and versatile. Opt for a straight-walled set to give your champagne cocktail some modern flair. Or, go for nearly-opaque coupes that look like they belong at Alice’s tea party, like the Rialto glasses below. Some, like the soft-green Estelle set, feel like a lovely balance of traditional and out-there. Of course, a one-of-a-kind vintage pair seems particularly lovely. In the end, I can't go wrong (and neither can you). All of the glasses below deserve a place on my shelf, right next to my newly-purchased matchingwine glasses.
