Everyone knows that the foundation ofmeal prepis the container, especially when your premade lunchtime salad has multiple components, like a dressing to go along with it. But you've definitely never noticed that your old reliableGlad containershas a genius second use perfect for those extras.

One very observant home cook onReddit, user VoodooMamaJuuju, revealed to the world that the little circles on top ofGlad containersare actually there for a reason: to serve as mini-lids for smaller containers. The clues have always been right there: They are called interlocking lids, after all, though we just always figured thelids, not the lid-container combos, were supposed to interlock. As one user politely states, "It's pictured on the package … apologies if you're actually blind."

Redditers seem to disagree about whether this hack is actually theproperway to use the lids or if it's all just a happy coincidence, asking the age-old question, "which came first: the double-duty lid or the mini containers?" A few users report that they bought lid-less mini containers and promptly disposed of them because they figured there was no use for the small open vessels. Of course, now everything makes sense.

Then again, there were people who have known this secret triple-use all along. One said, "It's for both. These Glad containers are literally advertised as such. I'm shocked people find this even mildly interesting and are giving upvotes." At least now you know you don't need aMason jarto pack the salad of your dreams—just a little, lidless Glad container.
