My love formargaritasis well-documented around these parts. I've written that I believe they're best when made witha few simple ingredientsorwhen combined with dry rosé.

And, this month, I'm evangelizing for thefrozen margarita, the often-maligned drink you may hazily remember being served out of a giant machine with a hypnotically rotating paddle that sat atop the bar you mistakenly stumbled into a few decades ago. Good news: the homemade version is less cloyingly sweet than that one and much, much more delicious. So much so that there's a very direct link between the rising thermostat and blender use in my household, because nothing cures a hot spell like a frozen margarita.

And, in the spirit of mixing things up, this House Cocktail version of the classic drink has a twist. It combines frozen raspberries—yes, frozen fruit makes for a better cocktail—and fresh ginger, which makes for a beautiful color and a taste that's a balance between sweet-tart and ever so slightly spicy.

Making your own perfectly balanced frozen margarita at home is dead simple: Combine frozen raspberries, your favorite tequila, lime juice, agave, finely grated fresh ginger, and two cups of ice in a blender and combine until smooth.

Cheers to frozen margaritas at home, no slushie machine required.
