Coming right up: an elegant concoction designed for warm-weather happy hour. It's pale pink in color, floral but not too sweet, and completely refreshing.

Ingredients

Makes 1 cocktail

3/4 ounce (1 1/2 tablespoons) fresh pink grapefruit juice
1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce (1 1/2 tablespoons) simple syrup (see cooks' note, below)
3/4 ounce (1 1/2 tablespoons) St-Germain elderflower liqueur
3 drops orange-flower water
1 ounce (2 tablespoon) Prairie Vodka
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons Gruet Brut sparkling wine, chilled
  1. Step 1

Stir together all ingredients except sparkling wine in a mixing glass.

    Step 2

Pour into Champagne flute, then top off with sparkling wine.

Cooks' note:

To make 1 cup simple syrup, bring 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water to a simmer in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved, then simmer 5 minutes. Cool syrup completely. (Leftover simple syrup can be used to sweeten iced tea and lemonade.)

  • Fantastic! This will be my go-to party celebration cocktail from now on. We had it for Christmas Eve. I couldn't find the orange-flower water on short notice, but I'll try to add that next time.

  • Excellent cocktail! Use fresh squeezed red grapefruit juice. It's worth the little bit of effort. Since champagne is used, and you can't recork it, we increase the mix ingredients in proportion to one bottle of bubbly. Very nice summer drink!
