  • Very tasty! Goes great with brisket. I used Chipotle Tabasco for the hot sauce. Gave things a nice smoky flavor. The star anise adds an interesting liquorice taste you don't find in other bbq sauces. The sauce would have been just as good without it, so not a problem if you do not have any on hand.

  • Great recipe! I use sriracha for the hot pepper sauce, and black salt to add a little smoke flavor. The first half of the year I was making BBQ sauces like crazy, this was my favorite. Next step will be playing with different dark beers.

  • I joined just to rate this recipe. Boy oh boy was this good. I used it on my pulled pork and it got rave reviews. This is definitely going into my recipe repertoire.

  • An excellent BBQ sauce. Used half the salt, and it was plenty salty. My guests were actually sneaking spoonfuls of the stuff. Will make again (and again) with more heat and less salt.
