The base for this fun frozen dessert cocktail can be prepared up to one month ahead. Keep a batch in your freezer for an almost-instant treat.

Ingredients

Makes 6 lattes

3/4 cup sugar
5 1/2 teaspoons instant espresso powder
4 teaspoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder
2 pinches of salt
2 1/2 cups water, divided
2 cups half and half
3/4 cup chilled heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 tablespoons (packed) golden brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon (scant) vanilla extract
3/4 cup Kahlúa or other coffee-flavored liqueur
Even easier: Instead of making whipped cream, try and organic all-natural aerosol whipped cream, like Clover Farms.

Special Equipment

Ice cube trays (enough to make about forty-five 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/4-inch ice cubes)
  1. Step 1

Whisk first 3 ingredients and pinch of salt in medium saucepan. Gradually whisk in 1 cup water, whisking until smooth. Cook over medium-high heat until sugar dissolves and mixture just begins to boil, whisking often, about 3 minutes. Remove pan from heat. Add 1 1/2 cups water and half and half; whisk to blend. Transfer to pitcher. Pour espresso mixture into ice cube trays, filling cubes almost to top (mixture will make about 45 ice cubes). Freeze espresso mixture in trays. DO AHEAD:Can be made 1 month ahead. Store espresso ice cubes in resealable plastic bag and keep frozen.

    Step 2

Using electric mixer, beat cream, brown sugar, vanilla, and pinch of salt in medium bowl until peaks form. Cover; chill.

    Step 3

地方6克lass coffee mugs or other glasses in freezer 15 minutes. Working in 3 batches, place 14 espresso ice cubes and 1/4 cup Kahl&eucate;a in processor. Blend until thick and smooth, about 30 seconds. Divide between 2 chilled mugs; place in freezer. Repeat 2 more times with espresso ice cubes, Kahlúa, and chilled mugs. DO AHEAD:Can be made 1 hour ahead. Keep frozen.

    Step 4

Spoon sweetened whipped cream atop frozen mocha lattes and serve.

  • I really enjoyed this recipe, but I usually prefer warm coffee-flavoured drinks. I found something similar that is equally delicious, and warm. //m.fonts4kids.com/recipes/member/views/AMARULA-COFFEE-SURPRISE-50174355

  • These tasted delicious, and just the right size. However, my coffee cubes did not freeze like ice usually does, they were sticky, so it seems if I make some way ahead to keep in plastic bags in the freezer, they will all stick together. Did anyone else have this problem?

  • I skipped the kahlua and just added some milk when blending and they still turned out wonderful. Having the frozen cubes sitting in freezer is great for a quick on-demand frozen latte!

  • Delicious! Great combo of flavors and love the creamy texture. The only drawback was that the espresso kept me up that night.

  • Delish! Made it this afternoon and my husband wanted another one two hours later! I love that you can make the ice cubes ahead of time and keep them in a ziplock in the freezer ready to blend up in a sec.

  • This drink is really good! I didn't read all the instructions before I made it, so I didn't realize that you have to freeze the stuff first. Instead I just put everything in the blender with ice. I substituted instant coffee for instant espresso powder. The only complaint that I have about this is now my husband bugs me to make this for him daily.

  • I have made these twice and they are wonderful. So easy to make!!! I think they are best if you make them 3-4 hours ahead and keep them (in coffee mugs) in the freezer.
