Spicy-sweet cardamom is a perfect complement to bitter coffee, and baked phyllo pieces add carby crunch without an overload of calories.
Ingredients
Makes 6 servings
In a bowl, beat cream until doubled in size; set aside. In another bowl, dissolve espresso powder in 1 teaspoon warm water. Gently fold together whipped cream, dissolved espresso, condensed milk, yogurt and cardamom until incorporated. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze until solid, 6 hours. Heat oven to 350°F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Place phyllo on baking sheet and coat with cooking spray; fold in half and coat with cooking spray again. Bake until brown and crisp, 7 to 8 minutes. Let cool; shatter phyllo with your hands into small shards. Divide ice cream, phyllo pieces and figs among 6 bowls.

Back to TopThis was such a simple recipe. Took me 5 minutes to put ingredients together, then froze for over 6 hours. Ice cream was delicious. Maybe a little on the sweet side but it complimented well with the cardamom spice and the chocolate cake that I made on the side.

I am a Chef and caterer...I've made this many times and it always exceeds expectations! Even people who do not like coffee flavor LOVE this ice cream. It's addictive, delicious and different! Perhaps my favorite flavor of all time!

I thought this looked so amazing and it sounded like it would be delicious. I made it exactly as written. It is nauseatingly sweet and has a bizarre flavor. The figs do not go with this at all to my taste. This is just disappointingly WEIRD! I challenge anyone to be able to eat more than a tablespoon. This was a huge disappointment and waste of money!

Of the 3 reviews posted, one person hadn't even tried it yet, and a second person made so many changes, it no longer resembled the original. This is not a blog for the lonely. By the way... I made it exactly as presented here, and it is excellent just the way it is.

Look forward to trying this minus the yucky figs. Maybe I'll substitute another fresh fruit.

Very easy and quick to make. Since fresh figs were not in season yet I used dried. I think next time I will use a little more espresso powder and a little less cardamon. Very good!

Delicious but very rich. Forgot to add the cardamon so poured some Madeira over the figs then sprinkled with cardamon for about an hour. Omitted the pastry all together.
