You’ll notice there’s no triple sec. Trust us, it’s better this way.

Ingredients

Makes 1

Kosher salt (for serving)
1/2-inch thick lime wheel (for serving)
2 ounces tequila blanco
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
3/4 ounce simple syrup
  1. Step 1

    Place some salt on a small plate. Rub rim of an old-fashioned or rocks glass with lime (reserve for serving); dip in salt. Fill with ice and set aside.

    Step 2

    Combine tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds.

    Step 3

    Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into reserved glass. Garnish with lime wheel.

  • 3-2-1 is the best ratio IMO. 3 part tequila, 2 lime, 1 simple syrup. + a splash of seltzer if served on the rocks. Substitute tequila for rum and add muddled mint for a mojito.

  • Substituting one sweet for another doesn't sound like a big deal, plus you have to make the simple syrup.
