Berry Rosé Sangria

Ingredients

Makes 6 to 8 drinks

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup crème de cassis
1 1/2 cups assorted berries such as blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries
1 (750-ml) bottle chilled dry rosé wine
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, or to taste
  1. Put berries into a heatproof pitcher. Bring sugar, water, and crème de cassis just to a simmer in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Pour syrup into heatproof pitcher and let stand 5 minutes. Add wine and lemon juice and stir mixture well. Chill, covered, until ready to serve. Serve over ice.

Cooks' note:

Sangria keeps, chilled and covered, up to 3 days.

  • Who cares if something is considered authentic (I'm looking at you epicurean71 and your useless "review") if it freaking tastes delicious and this freaking tastes delicious! You may want to adjust the sugar depending on the sweetness of your berries and the wine you use.

  • Didn't even bother to make this Sangria recipe as you should never put sugar in Sangria! Nor Crème de cassis.

  • I made this for our annual brunch (29 years and counting). I made it with a good dry rose (about $12/bottle) and used Chambord instead of the creme de cassis I couldn't find. I made two batches the night before and poured over ice as indicated. Sitting in the back yard on a beautiful day, we 4 women drank both batches before the afternoon was over. Every one liked it, felt it was refreshing, and there was very little fruit in the bottom of glasses as everyone ate the bottom on the glass fruit. I would not only make it again, I would make it again for the same group. I have a family picnic in June, and I think I'll make a couple of batches for that group.

  • After reading the reviews, I made this with a dry rose prosecco. It was nice but a little sweet - one glass was enough for my guests before switching to wine.

  • I liked this recipe very much. It was refreshing and light. However, next time I would probably use procesco or cava instead of a rose wine. The dryness of the wine was good and it should definitely be a dry wine but procesco or cava may have been more suitable.

  • The best thing about this sangria recipe is its so easy to make. You don't have to mess around chopping up lots of fruit like most sangria recipes. Originally it was a little too sweet for me so I cut back on the simple syrup and then it was perfect. You can find my version of this recipe on my blog, Spoons to Sporks.

  • Had a hard time finding creme de cassis at nearby stores but it was worth the hunt! Seriously, DOUBLE this recipe, it'll go fast. Next time I want to try it with a dry sparkling rose wine. I also used fresh meyer lemon juice since it's in season

  • Great and easy for a party! I don't love rose and this was a great solution to a gift of several bottles. Light and refreshing as a summer cooler.

  • This is delicious sangria! I used framboise raspberry brandy in place of the creme de cassis, because that's what I had on hand. So easy and everyone loved it!

  • This is a great summer drink, and so easy to make. We didn't have any rose wine, so we used a combination of pinot grigio and shiraz/cab blend. We also added a little triple sec to the syrup and some Grand Marnier at the end. I couldn't wait for it to chill completely, so I poured it over ice. Delicious!

  • This is the best Summertime Beverage I've had. It's easy to make and sooo refreshing. I've served it at several parties and pool get togethers and everyone loves it. It is a snap to make the night before and let it sit. WONDERFUL.

  • Delicious and easy. The small number of ingredients is deceptive. This is very flavorful. Be sure to use DRY red wine. Soft, fruity wine will not taste good in any sangria. I am considering trying to add a little rose water... I think it will be delicious.
